Near the beginning of Lent we are reminded of our Lord’s temptations. In the desert Jesus confronts the very nature of himself and his calling. He is tempted by worldly alternatives, which all seem reasonable but which leave God out of the picture. By putting God first in all things Jesus is not overcome by temptation. The more we prioritise the things of God above selfish desires, the better we shall be able to overcome the things which threaten to master us and which cause us to lose our way in the world and our vision of eternal life.
