Easter: Resurrection life
It is easy to underestimate the impact of that first Easter.  After all, we celebrate Easter every year.  There is nothing quite like the first time.  How can we even imagine the rollercoaster emotions, the confusion and the amazement of those disciples who went out early in the morning to pay their respects to a dead friend?  What they found was a complete absence.  The tomb was empty and there was not even a body.  Only the clothes used for the burial remained.
They probably thought that nothing more could surprise them.  But their puzzled minds would have still more to fathom.  The first appearances of Jesus must have had an air of unreality about them, like wishful thinking or a kind of mirage.  It was only when they began to meet together and to share those experiences that the pieces began to fit.  That was when they discovered a shared faith and a conviction that the Jesus they had known was not held captive by death.  Probably the most convincing witness to the resurrection was the transformative effect of this faith on the lives of those who discovered it.
Even though the world was the same as before, they no longer faced it with fear but with hope and joy and a sense of possibility.  The point of the resurrection was not simply to show us that a unique human being could be raised from the dead.  It was to show how human life could be raised above the confines of this world, how sin and death could be overcome and how the world could be transformed.  This work of transformation is inspired by God, but it is through human action that God has chosen to bring the life of heaven to our earth.  As we celebrate Easter we can ask ourselves how we can work to enable the ways of Jesus to make a difference to the places where we live.  We cannot do this on our own, but only with one another and with God.

SAINT OF THE WEEK:
Saint Joseph, March 19, the Feast of St. Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He is the step-father of Jesus. It has the rank of a solemnity in the Roman Catholic Church; and it is a feast or commemoration in the provinces of the Anglican Church. The earliest records of a formal devotional following for Saint Joseph date to the year 800 and references to him as nutritor Domini (educator/guardian of the Lord) began to appear in the 9th century, and continued growing to the 14th century. March 19 was dedicated to Saint Joseph in several Western calendars by the 10th century, and this custom was established in Rome by 1479.
In 1989, John Paul II positions Saint Joseph as breaking the old vice of paternal familial domination, and suggests him as the model of a loving father.

SAINT OF THE WEEK:
Felix of Burgundy, also known as Felix of Dunwich (died 8 March 647 or 648), was a saint and the first bishop of the East Angles. He is widely credited as the man who introduced Christianity to the kingdom of East Anglia. Bede praised Felix for delivering "all the province of East Anglia from long-standing unrighteousness and unhappiness".
Felix, who originated from the Frankish kingdom of Burgundy, may have been a priest at one of the monasteries in Francia founded by the Irish missionary Columbanus: the existence of a Bishop of Châlons with the same name may not be a coincidence. Felix travelled from his homeland of to Canterbury before being sent by Honorius to East Anglia. According to Bede, Felix helped Sigeberht to establish a school in his kingdom "where boys could be taught letters". He died on 8 March 647 or 648, having been bishop for seventeen years. His relics were translated from Dommoc to Soham Abbey and then to the abbey at Ramsey. After his death, Felix was venerated as a saint: several English churches are dedicated to him. Felix's feast date is 8 March.
